Duals out the side.

I was just wondering if anyone has run their duals out the side right before the tires. Is this legal and if anyone has done it how does it look.

Re: Duals out the side.

if you alter the cats in any way....technically illegal
if you exceed sound ordaninces....technically illegal

most people running true duals fall under one or both of those categories.

can it still be done and driven on the street sure

only major problems would be noise inside the car possibly worse, fumes, ground clearance (having to go under the gfx or a low part of the frame).

another concern that i've heard is if you are not running cats the fumes and gasses from the exhaust can deteriorate metal, specially those on the rims.

i think ford had that problems with the F150s that had side exhaust as a base option

Re: Duals out the side.

I have a 2 1/4 true dual setup coming off my Pacesetter LT's exiting infront of my rear tires. Its not loud whatsoever unless you get on it, and I have no cats. Ground clearance is an issue, but thats why you go down inclines on an angle slowly

Re: Duals out the side.

I ran LT's, 18 inch tube chambered mufflers with 45 degree angels and a little pipe that exited right in front of the rear tires for a day. I dont think ground clearance was any worse than anything else. Everything hung about as low as the collectors, with exception to the clamps. Nothing hit the ground. I think it was louder than being dumped, but who knows? And to answer your question about legality, i really dought it would be legal for several reasons stated above.

I would just be pariniod of blowing a headgasket on the highway and dumping coolant on the tires and loosing control, just food for thought.

Re: Duals out the side.

I know that altering you exhaust in any way is illegal. But i heard that on passenger cars, like camaros because of the rear seats, that the exhaust has to exit behind the rear seats. And if they exit in front of the rear tires that wouldnt be behind the rear seats. So it would be illegal. I dont have to worry about emmissions or anything so im not really worried about it. I was just wondering if any of you guys have done it and wanted to know what it sounded like and looked like.
