ect sensor in head not working, buy autometer gauge?

I've replaced my ECT sensor in the side if the driver's side head and the gauge in the dash is still stuck on the lowest setting. It doesn't work. I did verify the part #. I think the whole sensor and the harness is bad. My question is can I just buy the autometer gauge for water temp and splice it into the wire BEFORE the "bad" harness end or whatever and have it function? I'm scared to keep driving my car without knowing how hot it is or isn't. I just installed my CSI pump and I don't even know how it's performing!

Are you sure the temp sensor on the waterpump is plugged in and working?

I know the dash goes off the head but maybe it doesn't work because the other one is bad?

Well, I'm testing the water pump sensor today, but for now, let's assume it works. My original question still stands. Can I jsut splice the autometer gauge in if the sensor itself is broke?

Gauges work off of resistance.... You would have to check to see if the OEM sensor has the same resistance(OHMs') that is required for the Auto Meter......

well, I'm updating this thread so I can maybe get some last minute help. I tested the ohms and the dc voltage in BOTH ECT sensors and sure enough, the one in the waterpump is OK, but the same ECT sensor in the drivers side head is BAD. I JUST replaced that sensor less than a year ago, and the car has never even been started since I replaced it! What gives? I don't want to replace that sensor again and risk losing any of my perfect water wetter/antifreeze/water ratio! I guess I'll have to call autometer and ask if their water temp gauge will be compatible with the resistance from the LT1.

BTW: Is it at all possible that my in dash temp gauge wiring could be "pinched" or screwed up somewhere between the firewall and the inside of the dash???
