edelbrock performer heads and throttle body??
hey guys i got a 96 z28 and lookin to put an edelbrock twin 58mm tb, and peformer heads on. does anyone have any info and these parts or any info for me as to whether this would be a good choice or would suggest something else in place of this? any info is appreciated. other mods already done are as follows: k & n fipk, jet pcm, flowmaster exhaust, bbk headers. also will the performer heads match up to the headers i already have or will i have to get diff ones??

Re: edelbrock performer heads and throttle body??
I hear the edlebrock heads are pretty mild...you'd probably be better off w/ a llyold elliot port...it would probably be cheaper too. W/ your setup a 58mm tb would be a huge waste of money your stock is just fine...Not sure what you mean by will the headers match up...If you can upgrade to some long tubes then do that first...If you dont want to then next should be a cam or cam/heads and a tune.

What he said though I would not have been as nice about saying the Edelbrock heads are not worthwhile and neither is the JET thing, it is crap now and will be worse with continueing modification.
Also the heads are the wrong place to start on an LT1 as the stockers are rather good beating out everything that came on a smallblock before them, the cam is the cork in the system. Do heads and cam or the cam first, not just heads.

Re: edelbrock performer heads and throttle body??
The Edelbrock heads are not much different than stock... same 170cc intake runners, same 1.94" intake valves, same 54cc combustion chamber. Only the intake valves are larger than the stock heads (1.55"). In essence, its a stock head. Edelbrock only claims 24HP gain with those heads. IMHO they are a waste of money. Put the same amount into a port job on your stock heads, by one of the popular porters on these forums (e.g. - Lloyd Elliott), and you will see much larger improvements.
As far as the 58mm throttle body..... why? It won't fit on yout LT1 intake unless you open up the intake's throttle body ports to 58mm. And its for engine making maybe 500HP and above. You don't need it.... a waste of $400.
Do some reading on the forum, see what actually makes power, ask questions.... BEFORE you spend your hard earned money.

Re: edelbrock performer heads and throttle body??
Edelbrock is a good company just that today the OEMs are leaving a lot less room for improvement than they once did which makes it much harder for the aftermarket to build worthwhile parts. The Edelbrocks probably have more room for porting but if yuou need more than what ported stockers will deliver something like the LT4s, AFRs or if boosted or stroked the Trickflows again ported would be a better route.
