EGR and Emissions question

Re: EGR and Emissions question
Do you know what the six areas are they look at and what components control and effect them? I have my equipment on my car still but I dont know what causes what codes and why? And again if all goes well could you keep me posted.
Thanks again,
Rich

Re: EGR and Emissions question
AIR and EGR.
Catalyst
Evap
O2 Sensor
O2 Sensor Heater
I'm not a professional mechanic and new to this monitors stuff too.
The equipment for them has to be there.
O2 simms will take care of the last 2 as long as there's no wiring problems.
My Evap,O2 Sensor and O2 heater read ready.
I have cats but put in simms cause I got tired of changing out O2 sensors.
I'm hoping my car will read catalyst ready by next week and I'll get my new sticker.
I'll let you know.

Re: EGR and Emissions question
With the rear 02s, is it ok to delete them or does that show a not ready state? I no longer have my simms and have the rears deleted. Do the simms read as ready for the rear 02s? Sorry for all the questions, Im just trying to learn everything I can so I can pass for the first time in 5 years ( last tuime I got a waiver ) !
And as always,
thanks!

Re: EGR and Emissions question
Back again! Anyone know what causes the catalyst to show ready or complete? Also why would my EVAP say N/A when I look at it with hp tuner? I wish they had a book on hot these functions operated, even my 2 gm books dont tell you.

Re: EGR and Emissions question
I now know our cars have only 5 monitors.
AIR, EGR, Catalyst, O2, O2 heater.
So that's why EVAP is N/A or not supported.
I fooled my PCM to not throw the PO400 code and have the monitor read ready for the EGR.
I put up a post in the Computer/Diagnostics section about fooling the pcm.
I used a relay and a 75 ohm resistor but evidently it can be programmed that the monitor reads ready with the pcm by just testing the solenoid but never actually opening the valve because the MAP and RPM values are set to maximum in engine parameters in LT-1 Edit.
My catalyst still doesn't read ready and though I'll pass with 2 monitors not ready I too would like to know what it takes for it to be ready.

Re: EGR and Emissions question
Well, Im not sure exactly how I did it but I passed for the first time in the 5 years Ive owned the car? I put my 02 simms in on saturday, did the drive cycle as listed in the f body manual # 2 from gm, and with about 160 miles after resetting my codes, I actaully passed! I am going to ask the guy who programmed my car what all he did but it worked. Its a great feeling to get the monkey off my back! Good luck and if I can help, I will!

Re: EGR and Emissions question
Great,
My car passed today. I used Proscan to check my PCM
http://www.myscantool.com/index.html
This works with an Elmscan interface and one of the tools shows you when the monitors read ready.
I didn't do the drive cycle, but had to drive through 2 tanks of gas to get to the 2 not ready stage.
I think my other 02 monitor will read ready eventually as it was ready last time before I cleared my codes.
