EGR Solenoid

EGR Solenoid
I had an overheating problem some time ago. Realized my fans weren't running right. Replaced cool temp sens at water pump, same problem. Now keep in mind that my SES light was on. Eventually purchased a scantool and found that my EGR elec connector was disconnected and the plug was actually capped off. My cars only visit to a garage was to have the recall on the air pump done. Problem is when I do connect it, the fans wouldn't come on. What ive done is disconnect my CT sensor so fans run pretty much all the time. All 3 fan relays test correctly. What could it be?

Re: EGR Solenoid
What kind of coolant temps are you seeing on the scanner when you feel its "overheating"? The first fan (or low speed in the 95+ cars) won't come on until 226*F. The second fan (or high speed) comes on at 235*F. I'm guessing from your description you have a 95 or newer.... but:
You might want to add a "signature" with the year of your car, tranny type and any major mods. Not all years are the same. You are more likely to get people to respond if you give them all the info up front, and you are more likely to get correct info if people know what year car you have.

Re: EGR Solenoid
I was coming up on pegging the guage before shutting it down. The fans wont run unless I disconnect a sensor and give myself a SES light. When I do that i have no problem. Not sure if EGR solenoid is bad or not but it doesn't make sense to me that if that is the case, why should a bad EGR solenoid stop my cooling fans from coming on? My temp readings on scan as well as gauge are correct.
I guess what I'm going to have to do is just add in my own cutin/cutoff temp switch. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea as I know the fact cutins are a little high in my opinion.
Thanx for the tip of my sig. Fixed that
