Electrical problem FIXED!!

Well I need my car for school monday so all help would be wonderful!

Problem:
Alright well the cars been doing this for awhile it has a start problem where you turn the key and it just clicks and will do it several times then it will finally turn over and I would say its been doing it more and more. Then about a month ago it will do the same thing and then all the power will just die. NO power what so ever.

What normally fixs it:
I'll take the postive and Neg. off and giggle them and reconnect them a few times & mess around with the wire that comes from the Positive side and goes into that red box and power will kick back into the car(inside car lights come on ect)

The last time if that postive wire that runs to the red box was close to the neg it would cut the power off and when i pulled farther away the power would come back on to the car*very weird*

I Don't know if this helps but at one point i did touch the wrench while undoing the Neg side to that wire that runs to the red box from the positive side and it burnt some of the wires. Now i took the connecter off that went around the bolt and cut the wire and put a copper connecter back on there and bolted it back down. It was a crappy one and the one i took off was bronze i think and looked much better.

So what gives can anyone tell me how to find out what the problem is or had the same happen to them?

The Red Box i am refering to is this The 1st Far right wire in the left half of the picture

Re: Electrical problem Need help ASAP

The reason for the problem you are having is simply not enough current to pull in the solenoid and rotate the starter. That's the easy part. The problem now becomes (as you found out) finding the reason for the low current situation.

The first thing you have to do is be sure your battery is up to the task. It needs to be load tested either by you or someone at an auto parts store. If you do it check across the terminals with a meter to be sure the voltage does not drop below 11 volts when the engine is cranking. If you can get it to crank reliably enough to take the reading.

The next thing you have to do is clean up the connections you were talking about and the battery as well. Then check the engine to frame ground strap on the drivers side to be sure it is clean and tight. Be sure to check the connection at the starter as well.

If all that is done and you still have the problem, try jumping battery power directly to the starter with something like jumper cables. If it still has a problem, remove the starter to be load tested for current draw.

A starter will inevitably go bad by having more and more windings shorting together internally. This causes it to draw more and more current as time goes on.

What about the 2nd part of the problem with no power going to the car what so ever... no dome light no nothing. I thought maybe power wasn't getting out of the battery so i hooked up a battery charger and still no power to the car. so i took jumper cables to the car and touch then once on and it sparked so i know the power is cutting out somewhere.

I'll check out what you said as well Thanks. Altho can you tell me where these grounds are? My problem seems VERY simalar to this one. http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...trical+problem

Re: Electrical problem Need help ASAP

remove the battery cable ends from the battery, look for corrosion, clean if needed

yeah....you can kinda test this by jumper cables, put them on the ground side of the battery to the motor adn try to start and to the fram and try to start...
