Engine Help!

Hey guys this might of been asked before but I dont know exactly my problem. Im just gunna tell you what its doing and maybe you can help.

Okay first off I got a 93 Z28, auto. Stock w/ cai, chip ect..

Problem..

When in OD and running about 50mph, get on pedal easy well it doesn't rev up at all, it makes the sound like its running out of gas, but if I push the pedal down faster and harder then it won't do it, and it just quicks into low gear and goes. It does it really bad around 50mph in OD. If the RPM is higher and I keep it in D then it won't do it. But it does it quite bad, like it 'knocks' for as long as I hold the pedal neutral. Like it won't accelerate.
One friend said ignition, wires, plugs ect, or maybe fuel filter. He rode with me. It runs fine when your RPMing all the time but when your just cruising, its sh*t...
Please help thanks.

Ryan

Re: Engine Help!

I agree with your friend, sounds like you're in need of a tune-up. Are you running 91+ octane? If not, you could be getting knock based on low octane gas.

Re: Engine Help!

I usually run premium 91+...But my last tank was 87. Yes that could be it...I'll try.
But like my car only has 52 thousand KMs on it so it cant be nothing to serious...

Re: Engine Help!

sound like to me you are having trouble with your lockup torque converter. I believe that is the speed the it starts to lockup. This explains when you place it in D you don't have any problems.

Re: Engine Help!

You're more prone to knock under higher loads. Overdrive provides more load on your engine when you accelerate. Don't use 87 octane.

Re: Engine Help!

Well I put 94 octane in today (highest available) and the problem is gone. It runs excellent now!!!

Thanks for the help, I never realized octane made that much of a difference in how the engine performs...
