Dude, most oil filters are only made by three or four companies Nationwide. Fram Filters are not bad filters. If they were, then please explain to all of us how they are still in business and have a complete line of air, fuel, and oil filters. I can tell you from a engineering standpoint, they aren't the "top of the line" filters, but they do the job. Higher end filters, like the Mobil 1 Filters Bosch, K&N, etc.. sometimes include small magnets and a higher percentage of glass impregnated paper elements to further "filter" the oil and trap contaminates.

I'm not gonna say much more than, if you don't know things for sure, please refrain from saying stuff like "they suck" or Brand "X" is "bad."

Give us your opinions on stuff you actually use and why it might be good for us to use or not used based on factual evidence.

Otherwise, you're just another kid spinning the Rumor Mill.

Thanks,
Ivan

PS-Sorry to Highjack the thread but I really hate when people say crap like that.

Fram anti drain back valves stick and the paper media they use is very cheap. (cut a Fram and compare it to a Delco or K&N)

That being said, I used them in my old daily driver until I sold it at 180K. I beat the crap out of it and never had an issue with the engine.

For something I care about, I use a something a little more expensive, even if it is pseudo peace of mind.

Some what of a cool update. took all parts down to builder today. He gave me my old rotateing assembly back.

What I orginally thouhgt was a spun rod was really..
3 spun rods
1 spun main.
The builder said the bearing colided with each other and got stuck, had to scrape them off, not sure which bearing it was, but one end of the crank looks very bad, builder said he can't even turn it.

I have pictures the crank cannot be fixed. will post later.

Update: took all parts to builder 3 weeks~ ago, he had to shave the small dome off the pistons, to bump it down to 11.9:1. Was taking stuff to be balanced when I last talked to him (3 weeks ago) so motor should be done, or close to it got my headers from speed eng 2 weeks ago, have been on the road so have not been able to post photos.

thumbs up for speed eng. Will post pics later.

Another update, called engine builder yesterday, Apprently the very well known and respected machine shop he takes blocks to, to get 4bolt mains splayed STILL has my block. It has been in their building for at a minimum of 2 months.

Ive noticed that alot of the machine shops take thier sweet time on this step and do several at once, I've had some blocks set on the floor for a while before they get done, the machinist said he was waiting so he could do several at the same tiem....lol

The same thing happened w/ my engine builder, he said he could get better prices from the machine shop (and pass them down to the customer) bringing them in big groups like that.

Finally, motor got to engine builder about a week ago, so things should be coming along nicely. Just got back from being on the road for 3 weeks.

Update: shortblock is done.

A simple question also. When you buy a new optispark, does it come with cap and button? Link to the one im looking at. Also, does anyone know where I can get just the cap and rotor? There is alot of them listed on summit, but non are "cap and rotor combo" or not ac delco/gm.
