Engine Swap

Engine Swap
I have a 95 Formula. It has close to 176k on it . It leaks oil and has an exhaust leak. The guy before me did a cam swap somewhere in there.
But My brother a few years ago had a 94 z he wrecked it with 110k on it.
We are tired of the oil leak and were goin to switch engines. I'm not rich here or anything. But i am wanting to order a cam and pick up a used set of headers because of how much easier all that is with the engine out.
Anyone see any problems with teh swap or have any tips?

Re: Engine Swap
Swapping an old engine with an old engine may not be worth it. Leaks can be fixed and most headers need the engine in the bay to be installed properly...
If I were you I would take out the engine from the totaled car and use its block to build a new engine for yourself as you save up money. A new cast crank, a cam, some nice pistons, rods, maybe a 355. This can be done with not that much money, especially if you stretch it out. Once you have it built, you can drop it into your ride and have a 100% brand new engine.
This is just my $0.02 and don't take anything word-for-word there are so many combinations and so many options.

Re: Engine Swap
well appreciate the input. But keep in mind im goin to college this fall so money isnt gonna be real good. I'm not goin to be racing this thing much. Maybe a few runs. It would must be nice to have a great sounding one like i got now. With lower miles and all.

Re: Engine Swap
I am goin to college right now also, non trad full time student. I am on a budget also. Mine is a daily driver, and I am rebuilding my engine at 107K miles. It wouldn't be long as my bearings had significant wear. I pulled my motor out through the bottom. Heads are getting a valve job. Block is going to get boiled and miced, but the cylinders are smoothe as a 19 year old Thai girls bottom. Crank is going to get polished. New bearings are going in. Should be a pretty budgetable expense. I pulled the motor out throught the bottom with headers and transmission attached. Very easy task. But I am lucky, as there is no damage to the motor. So machine costs are a minimum.
