Excessive revving

Excessive revving
First off, i already searched and didn't find anything of use. The car is a 95 LT1 M6
I was coming home with my friend, and i was in 6th gear, and was going to accelerate from 45 mph to about 60 mph.
Anyway, all of the sudden the car started to rev really high....It was revving until it hit the rev limiter. Cruise control was not on. I pushed the clutch in, still doing it. Shifted out of gear, still doing it, so i just quickly turned the motor off.
Didn't know wtf was going on, i started it again, and it reved to the rev limiter again. Turned it off. I was running thoughts through my head, trying to figure out what was going on, i thought-Maybe the throttle is stuck, but if it is stuck, why would it keep accelerating? I never had the pedal more than 50% down during the whole trip either.
What i did was pump the gas pedal a bunch of times, started it, and it was fine.
Anybody ever heard of this or know what the hell it is?
Kind of reminds me of my go kart, the throttle used to get stuck on it, and it kept going faster and faster....

Well, i had soemthing like that happen to me, however, it didnt go all the way to the limiter. After i had accelerated, my car wouldnt come down in revs form the max that it had reached from acceleration. Somehow, i figured out that by engaging the ASR a couple of times, it would return to normal. When i took it to get looked at by my local mechanic, he found that the ASR had messed up the throttle cable and replaced it, fixed everything. So i dont know, maybe it has something to do with that, or maybe your return spring is really messed up.
