Exhaust Comparo

When talking with Joe today, he told me that he thinks my headers are going to be a power bottleneck for my head/cam motor, and that he totally prefers Hooker LT's.

I have ASM headers, and know they'll support up to 750ish HP, but it got me wondering.

How much power could I feasibly be leaving on the table between the ASM Mids and Hooker LT's??

Anyone have an idea?

I don't know the exact amount, but it's a lil bit of a hefty one

Swap em if you can

Maybe someone will step in with actuall data, but i don't think many people out there have been dyno'd before and after without any other changes. You could be the first though. What is your projected HP? I would have a VERY tough time justifying that in my mind, but i've never swapped in long tubes and dyno'd it.

Well, think of it this way, Shortys usualy give a stock car 20-30hp. Right? And LT's usually give 40-50hp, uh huh?! Well, you do the math!

OK.......I'M NOT RUNNING SHORTIES. Doesn't anyone know that ASM's are MID-LENGTH headers???

That said, I picked up .5 and 5 mph in the 1/4 with my exhaust, so I don't know about you all, but that roughly equates to 50 HP.

It's already been proven that ASM's will support 750 HP.

I'm not going to be swapping out the ASM's for Hookers. No way, no how. Not when the ASM's cost me $700+.

My projected HP for the head/cam combo is 380-390, maybe more, with the 224/230. I think we're set up for the dyno tune on Saturday.

I really don't think I'm giving up too much HP, but I'm just looking for an idea of what that number could be.

Your AS&M headers will be fine. I remember a while back reading a post about how George Baxter (I think that's who it was) didn't swap out his AS&M headers for long tubes until he was making over 850 hp. Only then was there a gain swapping them for long tubes.
