exhaust cutout

OK guys, before anyone jumps my shnit here, first let me explain that i used the search function and still couldnt come up with a DECENT answer, so here it goes. I have a flowmaster cat back exhaust with the mods in my sig, and am wondering if a cutout would do me any good? I know some say yes, and some say no, but has anybody done a back to back comparison at the track to compare. I know there is a sizeable differance with stock exhaust, but with a cat back is it going to make a differance. And where is the prefered place to put it, where the cat USED to be , or just before the rear axle. THanks for the input in advance. Thanks, prorac1

I noticed a slight gain. Put my right before the over the axle pipe. Definetly worth it for the sound.

I put my cutout about 3" behind my header collector and I really noticed it. about 2 tenths. I love mine!

Cool, thanks for the replys, now heres another question for ya. We have two people who put there cutout in two different places, which one is preferred. i would think that by the axel would give a little backpressure to work with, but where the converter is would be more like open headers, again, thanks for the input. Ok, i understand now. I have heard of alot of people putting them by the rear axle and was just wondering why, besides it would cut down on in car noise and resonation. I was just afraid i would put it on and not see any gain except for a choped up exhaust system. So i guess im just trying to learn from other peoples experiences, sofar this has been very educational, keep it coming, Thanks again, prorac1

As a side note, i took the cat from my 94, cut the flange off of the end of it, welded it to a piece of 18" X 3" straight pipe and had the back side of it swedged to go over the cat back front pipe, and it fits just like it belongs there. Prorac1

Right before the over the axle pipe work's just fine for me. When you get your car in the air you'll see the spot.

I don't have a catalytic converter. That's how and why I put it right after the collector of my y-pipe.

I have my cutout where the cat used to be. Picks up a dyno proven 7 RWH when open.

When I had a cutout I had it placed on the i-pipe just before it went over the rear axle. At the track I picked up 1 - 1.5 MPH in the 1/8th mile over my old Flowmaster.

If I went with a cutout again, I'd put it here:
