Fast Break-in and Oil Analysis Results
After I finished my Golen 383 and Lloyd's LE1 head/cam package, I followed the advice of others on this board with a lot more knowledge than me and the "Break in Secrets" on the www.mototuneusa.com website and did a "beat on it" type of break in.
What that means is that I ran the engine for about 20 minutes at 2000R RPM, checking for leaks, setting the fuel pressure on the AFPR, setting the TPS, bleeding the cooling system, etc. I let it cool down and changed the oil and filter. I ran it a another 20 minutes or so let it cool down, changed the oil and filter again and then took it out to a deserted stretch of highway near my house. I then proceded to run it up to 6200 RPM in second gear (I wanted to put it under load, but not at breakneck speed), letting it back off to 2500 rpm or so, before shifting to the higher gears to let it cool down. I did this about a dozen times in succession and then drove it home. I changed the oil and filter again and the breakin was complete.
The car runs absolutely great, but I decided to have an oil analysis done, since I have about 1200 miles on the motor now. I sent the sample to Blackstone Labs (www.blackstone-labs.com) and the results came back stating that the engine is progressing well through the wear-in stage, with no unusual amounts of metals, contaminants or other things to be concerned about.
That settles it for me, the fast break in is the way to go

Interesting...I was thinking of breaking in my new motor the same way when the time comes rather than the "baby it" method. Glad to hear you had good results with it, that gives me more confidence in my decision Are you planning to have another oil analysis done at the next oil change?

I made sure everything was running properly as well then took it out and ran it up the RPM band as well a few times. Parked, cooled down, did it again. Rinse/repeat a few more times, all broken in.
