Finished puttin in the cam

And it started up on the first try. I ran it for about 20 minutes the the first oil, and I'm going to chage again to dyno and run it for a few days then go back to mobile 1. I'm going to dyno friday morning if anyone wants to guess my #'s . I'm just hoping I don't spin a cam bearing (knocking on wood).

The last thing that you should be doing when hoping to not spin a bearing is 'knocking' on something..

I will venture a guess of 368rwhp/341rwtq.

Post flow numbers on the heads and I'll make a more educated guess.

Exclamation Re: Finished puttin in the cam

i know you might have just been in a hurry, but the bearings people spin after a cam install arent the cam bearings its usually rod or mains.

I have no idea what my heads flow, they were on the car when I bought it. The rockers, springs, and heads were the only mod, the rest was 100% stock. They are port-matched to the gasket perfecty, so it looks like a full port job. To be honest I'm shooting for 340+rwhp.

Re: Finished puttin in the cam

Let me know what you think about the 227 after you drive it more.
I am very pleased with that cam in my car. The SOTP meter says
a very noticable improvement throughout the powerband. The
exhaust note is also very different than the stock cam. I would have
dynoed by now but I have not been able to schedule an appointment.

I have a madz28 tune so it will be interesting to see what that does.
I hope to dyno the hypertech cam tune back to back with the madz28
tune. So far the hypertech tune was not pulling any knock retard with
94 octane fuel. The madz28 tune is pulling 3* retard with the same gas
so there are still some things to work out.

Good luck at the dyno!

Re: Finished puttin in the cam

I didn't get on it at all yet. Around town the driveability is like stock though, and it has a noticable lope through my exhaust, you pretty much have to be deaf not to hear it. It's not as radical as some cams, but its definatly there. I have a pcmforless.com tune, and I had him send one out before I found out that I had ported heads, so the main reason for the dyno is to check the a/f ratio. And how long should I wait before I go WOT?

Re: Finished puttin in the cam

Most say that there is no break in period for a hydraulic roller cam but
I put 300 easy miles on the cam before I went over 3,000 rpm. Since
then it has been regular trips to 6,000 because it's such a rush.

I don't know if you read the other post so I may be repeating myself on
this but the first time I did a WOT run I bounced off the rev limiter before
I was close to ready for the 1-2 shift. LOL

Re: Finished puttin in the cam

I just got back from a little test drive, and It definatly pulls alot harder. 1st gear doesn't even exist anymore. 2nd and 3rd pull like crazy. I Can't wait to see what I dyno at, but I'm not going to even bother to go to the track until winter down here in florida with this humidity and heat.

Re: Finished puttin in the cam

Nice vids. This is definatly a stronge cam. Everyone underestimates it because of the specs though, but the #'s don't lie.
