First time owner
I recently got my first american car after a string of bad import experiences. I have a 96 Z28. I was wondering if there was anything that I needed to watch out for or pay special attention to.
I ran the gas out of the tank that the dealership put in and put a thing of Lucas fuel injector cleaner in with a full tank of 100 octane to help clean everything out a little. I already have new spark plugs ready to go in and the car already has a MSD wire set on it along with a few other pieces of MSD on the car.
I have really enjoyed it so far, but I have only had it a couple of days.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Visshus

welcome to the club man
just do a good ole tune-up. I'd run a can of seafoam through the gas tank, works so much better, and cleans everything.
for the tune up - plugs, fuel filter, air filter.
is it m6 or a4?

It wouldn't hurt to change the tranny fluid, rear axle fluid, and coolant if that hasn't been done before either. Other then that, stick with the 91 or 93 octance gas, a 100 octane is overkill if that car is stock.

Welcome, I'd agree that whenever you buy a used vehicle to change all of the fluids. You never know what the previous owner maintenced or lack-thereof. If you need help this website is great!
Are you handy with tools? Can you change fluids yourself?

the car is an automatic. We have all the service record notating what has been done and when.
I plan on having all the fluids changed by then end of January.
Yeah, I am handy with tools. Since I was an only child for years my dad and I restored my first car together and I have been a car chick ever since.
Thanks for all the information so far. I really appreciate it. I have never owned a Chevy before and this is my first experience with one.
Have a wonderful new year.

First of all, WELCOME! And, prepare for trouble.......and I don't mean the car. I mean the attention a girl gets on here! Good luck!
As for your car, it looks like you have everything under control. Coming from imports to it and it's gobs of torque anywhere and everywhere must be a fun change. As far as suggestions I only have one thing to note, don't wash the engine!! You may have had no plans to, but just in case, don't do it!!

You will be best off learning some basic maintenance such as opti replacement. If you love your car, you learn to work on it yourself. I have had every mechanic (2) that has worked on it screw up something. These are not complex machines and can be easily learned. You will appreciate them much more when you yourself do the maintenance.
Enjoy and ask lots of questions.

just a little advice on fluid change, be careful with the trans fluid being that your car is an auto if its never been changed before dont change it especialy if the car has over 100,000 miles . it will cause the trans to slip and eventualy become usless and intern be time for a rebuild. if it has been changed within the last 50,000 miles u'll be safe if not dont touch it
