First track times!

Just took my 94 z28 vert a4 2.73 to the track. It still only has a flowmaster and k&n cai, so I wanna know what mods would benefit me best, according to my timeslips from tonight...

1st RUN
reaction .960
60' 2.493
1/8 et 9.787
1/8 mph 75.52
1/4 et 14.928
1/4 mph 95.95

2nd RUN
reaction .797
60' 2.502
1/8 et 9.783
1/8 mph 75.47
1/4 et 14.942
1/4 mph 95.93

3rd RUN
reaction .514
60' 2.342
1/8 et 9.634
1/8 mph 75.38
1/4 et 14.807
1/4 mph 95.73

4th RUN
reaction .828
60' 2.319
1/8 et 9.563
1/8 mph 75.72
1/4 et 14.692
1/4 mph 96.13

I have kumho street tires right now, and I probably won't be getting drag radials for a while longer. I only did burnouts on the last two runs and that really helped me out! What reasonably priced mods can get me into the 13's? I feel like a 14.6 flat is doable with a perfect run right now, so I'm 6 tenths off! I'm thinking of 3.73 gears. Also, my trap speed seems a bit slow. Any ideas?

A 3000 stall converter would get you there, with some drag radials.

First things first. KILL THAT FLOWMASTER! Really... get a used 3" catback for 100-125$. I got my hooker catback for 100$. The following mods should help: !cat, gears, some good tires, and a S2 LT1 throttle body. If you need info on the throttle body email me. They are 10 times what a holley or bbk are. They are ported from stock cores and mine kicks ***!

free mods like TB bypass mabey a manual fan switch to run a little cooler... every little bit helps. Possible tune-up depending how old the plugs and wires are. some used headers and ypipe and a different catback should get you right there.. and im sure the 3.73s and DRs would do alot for you.. and of course the stall

Good times man. The more I read this stuff, the more it pisses me off. With drag radials, I pulled a sub 1.9 60ft, yet my best time was 14.92 or something at 93 mph. I just don't get it, but I hopw my new opti helps out.

So everyone thinks 3.73 gears will help? I'm also thinking of changing the spark plugs/wires and I'll be getting a HPP III sometime soon. As for the exhaust, I'm thinking of getting an electric cutout instead of catback.

Since you are A4 I would go 3:42's . But its your choice.

subframe connectors and lca's w/re-location brackets and a torque arm. Your times are a bit off par. the gears and the drop top shouldn't take that much off your times. tune up the car and take it back.

well, if you can hit a 2.0 60' tie that should drop you down to a 14.1 or so, which is right where a stock LT1 should run. Your MPH looks a bit low, but since we don't know what track conditions you are looking at we can't say. 3.73's are probably not going to do much more than make it even harder to get traction...good drag tires will help, and make sure the car isn't pegging 240* when you run it...turn it off in the staging lanes, etc. I wouldn't do a long burnout on street tires as it doesn't help...just seems to burn more miles of them. Do a quick cleaning of the tires. When you get up there, don't powerbrake it much at all or your going to lose traction again...you have to get a feel for when the tires are going to go south on you.

Get your 60' down and you should be ok

I'm in Hawaii, and I hear that cars generally run a bit slower here than on the mainland. Last night's weather was 75F and 35% humidity. Track workers regularly sprayed water with a hose across the width of the entire track, so it wasn't possible to avoid the water! On both of the first two runs, the car was slightly fishtailing for about 5 or 6 seconds, which was pretty scary, considering my brain wanted to ease up on the throttle and my ***** wanted to let it rip! I always shutdown the car in the staging lanes, and I did burnouts on the last two runs, mainly to shake/dry the water from the tires. As for how I launched it, I shallow-staged the car, lightly held the brake with my left foot, then hit the throttle at about 2/3, rolling it to full. The tires made very minimal squealing on all runs, so I'm not sure how much my 60' time can improve with my current setup. Maybe something in the 2.2x range is reachable, but 2.0x seems damn near impossible with my setup and conditions. A viper gts that I ran against did a 2.089 60' and 13.129@109.81, and a newer talon tsi awd did a 2.467 60' and 14.821@95.78, so maybe part of my traction problem is the track.

lol, I actually don't know why I said that. I guess just because they are better than my times I hope my opti was the problem.

Throttle Body??? Throttle bodies do little if any performance. YOu are right about gears and exhaust. Stock throttle flow great even for stroker motors. so dont waste ur money on that. spend it on some headers or something. and dont forget suspension. your 60 foot sucks, maybe some lca and tires!
