front engine noise

Well i thought it was a rod knocking from an encounter with a new mustang, had a chance this morning to check more ,im thinking collasped lifter or spring maybe?oil pressure is 50 hot and 25 cold no af oil mix or leaks and motor still runs and starts fine, just a noise towards the front of the motor...noise seems to be constant ,no louder or less. thaanks for the help.

Re: front engine noise

Impossible to say without some video/audio. You can inspect under the valve cover for any visible problems. You can still have a bad bearing with good oil pressure.

Re: front engine noise

^ Agree, does it sound like a knock, peck, rattle, or hammering?

Re: front engine noise

have found the first cylinder on drivers side, looks like a lifter has collasped..oil squirts once every cam revolution, took out for a short drive noise is noticible starting at 2000 rpms..its not a loud rod knock sound ...took both vavle covers off and checked the only one with a problem was the above cylinder

Re: front engine noise

So you narrowed it down to one cylinder, but we still don't know what sound you're tracking down. It is a ticking? That would be a lifter problem sound, or loose rocker or alot of other things...

Re: front engine noise

No need to go in that far if it's just a lifter or loose rocker. Take your time and eliminate the possibilities. Maybe find someone in your local area that knows their way around a motor.
