Fuel prime pressure

My care doesn,t start right up I did a fuel pressure test I get 15 psi if that when I turn the ignition on, I get 40 psi when I start it. I thought I should be getting 40 psi for a prime not 15 I pulled the fuel pump relay out and was wondering if I could test it before I buy a new one or if it could be something else. I did a search this has happened to plenty but I need a little more info. The person I bought the car from said he replaced the fuel pump and its done it ever since.

Re: Fuel prime pressure

OK I bypassed the relay and the pump primed to 40 psi. So I bought a new relay and it does the same thing I can hear it it clicks off too early I am stumped If any body has any suggestions that would be great.

Re: Fuel prime pressure

The fuel pump has a check valve in it to keep the system pressurized once the fuel pump shuts off after the 2 second start sequence. Chances are that your fuel pump check valve is bad and you need to replace the pump. Other sources that can cause this failure is a bad fuel pressure regulator, leaky injector(s) or a hole in your fuel line.

Re: Fuel prime pressure

Hey Bandit, i have a problem just like your's, i had a friend watch the guage and when i turned the key to run he said the guage hit 30-35 and as soon as it hit that it dropped to 16. Then when i started it i had 39 psi after i shut off the car and let it sit for 20 minutes the pressure dropped to 20. My car also takes longer to crank over now also but the biggest problem is my car studders all the time, at idle it sits there and shakes and when your driving it'll start bucking, you have any symptoms like this? Anyways if you get a new pump put in and it fixes the problem will you tell me.

Thanks

Blaze
