Fusible links???
I've been all over the starter / ignition wring diagrams. Does anyone know if we have fusible links in the starter system?
I'm still having my startup problem and having a hard time thinking that it could be the starter.

I have another thread that's about 6 months old and ongoing.
In a nutshell, new batt, batt cables, alternator, coil, nuetral start safety switch, brand new pro am starter, it's the third starter counting the original.
When I turn the switch, all I hear is a clunk at the starter. It's like it tries to start and something tells it to stop. Volts are only dropping about 1 volt and stay there as long as I hold the switch. Won't jump start, get the same result. No codes. Help.
Getting ready to pull the new starter and get it bench checked.

I read your other post. Have you checked for binding between the starter gear and the flywheel? If jumping the car helps then it is most likely and issue with the battery. What brand is the battery? Did you clean the ground cable connection point when you changed it? Check the battery voltage at nite and then again in the morning does it drop at all? When you changed the starter i'm assuming you changed the solenoid aswell?

I'm not real sure how to check for binding. I just put a yellow top optima in it. It's the third or fourth battery since this started. The terminals are clean and even lubed with the anticorrosive gel. The solenoid is built onto the starter.

on mine with the belt off i can turn the motor over with my hand useing the balancer. With the starter off just use a long screw driver or a pry bar on the teeth. Also instect the teeth on the flywheel to make sure they are good.

Update
OK, the "new" starter bench checked good. The engine manually turned over by hand. On the second try after reinstallation, she started right up. Ran great, no codes, seemed really happy. Then, on the following 30 attempts to start it, all I got was a clunk at the starter. God only knows.
