IMO I think it's a must to swap out the K frame for an aftermarket one regardless if you are using the stock pan or not. Anything to decrease front end weight. But this is just me.

Unless you do ANY autox or RR, the stock k-member is the only one strong enough to handle the side loads that kind of racing puts on them...
