Here's my 396 at the dyno with 2 chamber 40 series 3" Flowmasters.

Long tubes / no cats / 2.5" to mufflers / 3" under the axle exhaust.

I used to have a 30 series Flowmaster on my car, it sounded real nice. Very smooth and not annoying at all. Not your typical Flowmaster sound. It also seemed to perform just fine.

The 30 series is 3" in and single 3" out, right? I was thinking of trying that on my Camaro. Flowmaster did tell me that the 40 series doesn't flow as well as the 30 series. But the muffler dude convinced me that the 30 series would be way too loud. But I don't think that would be the case, right now the 40 series isn't very loud at all...it's almost quieter than the SLP muffler that was on there before.

Maybe I'll try the 30 series today.

Click on the vid in my sign to listen to dual 3 chamber flowmasters, (LTs & no cats) at WOT with the windows rolled up. It sounds pretty good, but the flow can (and will) be improved.

It would be wise if people start referring to flowmaster in past and present 40 series, because these new ones are supposed to be that AMAZING flowmaster sound, which I know any muscle car ethusiast loves, along with dyno proven increased HP.
I've got the 'new' 40-series on my Chevelle (roller cammed 496 BBC), and they sound awesome.

I didn't think the 30 series was loud at all. Flowmaster's site lists it as quieter than the 40 series, and is quieter outside the car than the Delta Flow 40 series. Inside the car it's supposed to be about the same as the Delta Flow. I think the 30 series is really a sweet muffler, very nice sound. Also, if you wanted a two on the left look, just have the muffler guy make a y-pipe on the exit of the muffler going to two 90* turns then to two tips.

Well, I don't think a single 3" pipe coming out the left will look bad. You say it might be a little quieter, but doesn't it supposidely flow more than the 40 delta flow series?

Thanks,
Steve

Honestly, from my experience it'll probably be right around the same volume as your current Flowmaster muffler. They are said to perform better, partly due to increased scavenging of the exhaust gases.

Why? Unless I had a true dual exhaust, then it's nothing but looks.

Actually, I've grown quite fond of the left exit exhaust.
