Re: glowing exhaust passenger side

You made mention that it smelled rich....

I've read that it could be fuel burning in the exhaust manifold. Check the plugs and plug wires on that side...swap the O2 sensors from one side to the other...see if the glowing follows. I've also read that mis-adjusted rockers can cause this issue too.

I didnt switch o2 sensor but i did unplug it cause i read somewhere that if unplugged the computer will go to a factory setting and it didnt do anything, i even pulled the fuse to the ecm to reset the ecm to and there is still no change. I still have the same problem

its also running way to rich you can smell it from the exhaust.

I did the code search and they are injector circuit board and the egr.

the oil it smelled like fuel
You need to clarify the codes that were read.

You need to pull at least the right side plugs to inspect their condition.

You need to confirm the fuel pressure during idle with and without the vac hose connected. And also when the engine is shut down. However, the most important thing is apply vacuum manually to the FPR and see if it holds.

If I remember correctly (old deteriorating brain) the FPR is over the right bank and leaks into those cylinders more than the left bank. Causing both crankcase dilution and rich running.

The fuel in the oil is the most telling problem that you mentioned. There are very few reasons for crankcase dilution. Injectors and FPR are about it. Other than non firing cylinders, but that should be obvious.

You need to understand how serious dilution is. If the cylinder walls are being washed down with too much fuel, it can cause the rings to gall the cylinder wall.

If the oil is diluted too much, you can obviously waste the crank, rods or block. Not to mention what diluted oil does to the valve guides etc........

So dilution, running rich and right side glowing all point to a bad FPR diaphragm. Time to start sucking on a hose.

Re: glowing exhaust passenger side

this is what i did tonight. I checked vacuum lines again,no change in rpm's. Since i dont have a gauge for the fuel pressure, I unscrewed the cam and pushed down and fuel sprayed out so it cant be leaking down right or wrong or do i have to wait a while after it has been ran or idleing. I pulled the vacuum line off and i do have vacuum you can hear it sucking. Can i check anything with out guages or do i need them thanks again

Re: glowing exhaust passenger side

I do have another question. When i pulled my opti harness and saw 2 prongs bent could it have shorted out the opti to be causing all my problems, just a thought thanks

If wire were in fact shorting that IS your problem.

Of course you have vacuum getting to the FPR

You want to check the FPR not the vacuum system. Put a hose long enough so you can hold it on the FPR and suck carefully on it. It should hold vacuum indefinitely. The hole purpose of this experiment is find out if the diaphragm in the FPR has a hole in it. Get it??

You don't care about the vacuum system.

Unless you don't know what dead cylinders feel like, your opti can't be the problem. Remember you said it drives fine it just has glowing headers on one side? The opti can't create that situation.

If you have dead cylinders and you can't tell, you should not be driving.

Re: glowing exhaust passenger side

I had that happen once on an old car. The plugs wires were connected wrong.
