Re: GM846 and 222/230 owners

I have that cam. I have the crane 99893 springs, with the comp cams hardware, part #'s
611-16 locks
740-16 retainers
4770-16 seats
As far as the timing chain, I'm running an LT4 extreme duty timing chain. I'm also on the stock oil pump and everything... If you have any more questions just let me know.

I just had to grind the valve seats on most of the intake valves a bit to clear, other than that it was fine... Oh yeah, get the crane vavle spring install tool, its worth the money.

Cool... WHat does the Crane Valve spring tool look like?

Last time I puleld springs all I can remember is how long it took me mainly due to fumbling with an annoying spring compressor.

This is where I got mine from, http://byunspeed.com/catalog/product...e2b5adf2e4ebc1
I think it was worth the money. I did drill out the holes that the studs go in a little to make it slip on and off easier though.

Very good...

I was wondering if you had any problem setting the springs to get the right pressure and height with those seats? Did you use after market valves on your heads when they were ported... or are the valves still stock dimensions?

I have no idea what valves are in my car or who ported my heads, they were on the car when i bought it. The rest of the car was 100% stock, so that baffles me. With the hardware I bought, it gave them an installed height around 1.80"... You would have to grind the seats no matter what cam you use, and its real easy, theres no reason to send them off to a pro...

Re: GM846 and 222/230 owners

Okay.. think I got you... you mean I have to widen the hole on the Seats to allow them to fit over the base of the valve stems... got you. Don't know why it took me a while to figure that out. This setup is a bit more... but seems better than the 10308-1 deal. With the shims... ETC. Thanks for answering my questions... but I have just one more.. I read about some people having issued clearancing those springs with thier aftermarket RR's... did you have any of those issues? what RR's are you using?

No, you grind part of the outside edge of that comp valve seat, you don't grind the middle of it. It's 1.5" and thats too wide for some parts of the head to clear. And the comp retainers clear the rockers better than the crane retainers, and my rockers were hitting with the old crane retainers, but they don't hit with the new comp retainers so I think they should be fine for you, expecially if you have NSA rockers. If you have SA rockers you might have to grind them a bit.
