GM847 Setup ?'s

well i kinda posted about this about a week ago but i need some more ?'s answered.

ok so the stock 561 heads will be shaved to help seal up better (blown head gasket is the cause of this whole project) when doing my cam swap i know its just insurance to repalce the timing chain and gear set, but im not entirely sure if mine wasn't recently repalced before i bought the car. so how critical is it to replace it or is it more of a peice of mind thing? should i run LS7 lifters or stock replacements? will i be running stock length pushrods or will i need a different size? should i go ahead and get guide plates? and if i stick with 1.5 rockers is it ok to run the stock stamped ones and if it is can i use poly locks on top of the bearings with out valve cover clearance problems? what valve springs are best to run? i really don't want to skimp on the springs so i will spend top dollar if necesarry on them.

also if you are running a gm847 or similar cam please share your setups what has worked what hasn't maybe this will help others that have the same questions i do.

i would not run stock rockers with that cam

if your lifters are ok then there is no reason to replace them

just get a stock replacement timming set from gm

if you have the extra money it would be a good idea to go with non self aligning rockers and 7/16 studs, requiring you to purchase studs, guideplates, and chromolly pushrods, trick flow has cheap guidplates and chromolly pushrods for cheap

with the heads being milled, and you should also run a impalla head gasket which is slightly smaller to bump compression a bit, you will mostlikely need a smaller pushrod but you will need to check to be sure

as far as valve covers you will need to do a simple ten minute modification located here
