Good Pininon Angle?

What is a good pinion angle for the street? Should there be a different pinion angle setup for the strip? Does it matter if you have a stock rear or a 12 Bolt? Does the transmission type make a difference, i.e., manual or automatic?

What is the best gauge to use to measure pinion angle?

A safe New Year to everyone!

Cheers!

My BMR TA came with a pinion angle finder tool.
From what I have read the autos like -2 and the manuals as much as -4, I am running -2 in my auto on the street but its not a daily driver. 0 is reccomended for regular street driving and then adjust at the track but I have been driving mine with -2 on the street for 5k without any problems.
Too much negative or positive angle will shorten U joint life and in extreme cases I would think it might even cause binding.
Stick with between 0 and -2 on an auto or a manual for that matter but with the stick you could experiment at the track with more negative angle to see how the car reacts.

I would suggest zero pinion angle for the street. Street tires aren't going to hook causing your rearend to rotate and as stated above, you're just working your u-joints over.
