Got my Opti Wet :-(

So I did what everyone knows not to do. I washed my motor. I used low pressure, and was careful to keep the stream away from the opti. But.. somehow it did get wet. The car will almost run, but black smoke belows out of the exhaust and it runs REALLY rough. I put my scanner on it and it's throwing a code 36. I've gotten this opti wet a couple times already.. most due to coolant. I'm afraid I'm going to foul my plugs if I try to crank it again, if I already haven't that is. How long should I wait before I try again?

I am convinced that most blame this condition on water in the opti when the the real cause is wet plug wires. Let it dry out then check those wires. I blamed the opti once too and found spark shooting out of wires and boots.

Yes you are correct, next time I will read the entire thread. The code is most likely indicative of the opti.

Let it dry. Take the vacuum lines off and put a shop vac. up to one of the ports.

Your wires must've been a ****ty quality or worn out if that happened.

Uh huh, they were Elitesparkplug.com wires and they sparked like sparklers when they got wet. The MSD's ave never been a problem.

The shopvac did the trick. I pulled the vacuum hose off the intake and off the intake duct and sealed them off on the shop vac hose, after about 5 mins of vacuming. I tried it and it fired right up. Neat trick.

Doing this and blowing moisture free compressed air into the inlet hose might be even better.
