Grade 8 threaded rod

Grade 8 threaded rod
I'm going to be have to remove and reinstall the crankshaft hub on my 97 SS in the future and have a question. I've done a search and read all the threads about it and realize that I need either the Kent Moore tool, (which is outrageously expensive) or a piece of 7/16-20, grade 8 threaded rod to make a hub install tool. My question is where are you guys finding grade 8 threaded rod? One of the threads mentioned Fastenal. I checked their website and they only have grade B7, same with McMaster Carr. Seems like everywhere I look they only have 7/16-20 in grade B7. According to the best info I can find, B7 is some where between grade 5 and grade 8.

I would call someplace you have local that specializes in hardware - fasteners. I actually had one laying in my shop but the local store could order me in one from their distributor. If nothing local might try grainger.I am not sure the one I used was grade 8 and worked fine just be sure you have several threads catching. On a side note dont lose the spacer that goes with the crank bolt or you will have to rig up something to replace it as they dont carry it anymore(unless by chance they have an old stock item). I have read that maby recomend a new crank bolt on reinstall.(I did) Posted from Camaroz28.com App for Android
