How did you know how much to take off, any special method?

just thought i'd offer. i used a caliper measured it first and just kept checking.i'm a machinist by trade so i got pretty good at judging thousands.best of luck to you i'm sure you'll get it done.by the way i broke 2 opti's before i figured it out.
