guess what it blew again

Re: guess what it blew again
How much is it bored?
Has anything happened to the block to make ya think it is/would be a crack?
Look for a crack going around the top 1/2" of the cyl. If ya see something and are not sure take a propane bottle and heat it up SLOWLY to see if it opens up. Just let the end of the flame touch the metal and don't get it hot enough to change coolers.
Is there water getting into the cyls? Water leaking to the outside?
Water marks on the gasket from running that short of time would not be seen unless ya have dye in it.

I would use the apr thread sealant next time.. it is cheap and easy to use. when you pull it apart look at the head gasket around the head bolt, you should be able to see small white lines around the bolt holes. ARP-100-9904
I bet this will fix your leak.

final answer is there are cracks in the head bolt holes causing coolant to leak... Kinda thought that would be something that they should have noticed. now my options are toss it and start over on a new block or go back to the original motor.

Re: guess what it blew again
I talked to Chris (TransAMGT94), and the latest is that the shop is looking for another LT1 block to start on. It's either that or use the OEM block which is still at stock bore. Once that is established, they said they will talk. They did say that he shouldn't have to pay for "some" of the buildup again, that is if Chris decides to use them again with a different block.
Whatever that means I haven't a clue. If it were me, I'd make the shop give me an estimate in writing before making another step towards building another block. They've had the whole motor for over a week and have supposedly torn it all down.
