Question Guideplate height differences....is there really an advantage?

This is kind of an odd question.

My car has Crane guideplates on it. They are the kind that go out, then up, then out again:

Okay, insanely crude drawing. Anyway, I took a look at the Comp guideplates, and they are just flat.

Sadly, I had to clearance part of my LT4 valve covers to clear my Cranes, and I was talking to another guy I know who always runs Comps (with the same 7/16" Pro Mags I have) and never had to clearance his.

Anyway, is there a "stability" advantage of one over the other. Or any advantages as all. Basically, my guide plates support the pushrods closer to the rockers than the Comps do. I'm just curious is this makes any sort of difference. I'm assuming not, but figured I'd get some info in my head.

IN my opinion all other things equal, closer would be better[more accurate] but in reality it probably makes very little difference!

If you look at it from how it supports the pushrod, the one that offers support closest to the midpoint of the pushrod would be best. I'd look at the average travel of the pushrod and pick a midpoint of that range and see which guideplates are closer to that midpoint. Realistically, I'd think there'd be only a slight difference.

Since it seems that there has been very little design change in guideplates since they were invented, I would guess that there is little difference in performance.
