hard to start

Hello experts, well, let me start off by saying thank u all for helping me many many times on problems with my lt1. Thank yall so much.

Now, I have a new problem. It all started when I was coming down my street and I reved her up a bit. The car shut off pretty much right when I stomped on the gas. Kinda like, it ran outta gas or something. The rmps just dropped. Then i tryed to start it up again and it would not start! A few times I thought it would, but it would not until finally I turned the ignition with the gas pedal fully depressed. It started!

What could be causing the problem? I can't rev the car up anymore cuz it just dies. If I drive it normally it drives without problems. It's only when I punch the gas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. U guys never let me down. Thanks alot!

SES light on? Have you checked the fuel pressure?

No sir and the pressure is fine. By the way, the car just had a tune up, new plugs, new unarching wires, and. Opti.

Re: hard to start

Does putting the accel pedal on the floor while trying to start it always allow it to start?

Yes. Sometimes it starts right up with no problems. Other times it does not. Even when it start well, I still can't rev up and accelerate quickly. It will die.

Re: hard to start

Check the air intake elbow at the Throttle body. For some strange reason mine pops off every now and then, and causes problems like you mentioned..

Re: hard to start

The elbow and Cai were the first things I checked, and both were fine. Thanks for the suggestion

Re: hard to start

Sure there are no tears in the elbow?

If it starts easier with the pedal on the floor, it could be flooding, due to a leaking injector.

If it starts hard, and continues to run poorly, could be a bad coolant temp sensor. Does your scanner allow you to look at the sensor readings? If so, verify that the coolant temp sensor is providing the correct temp to the PCM.

Re: hard to start

You can check if you have a leaking injector by removing the rail from the manifold with the injectors still attached, then prime the fuel system. If any of them drip or spray, it's leaky.

You said your fuel pressure was "fine." Specifically, what conditions did you measure it, and what results did you get?

Re: hard to start

Let the fuel pump prime, without starting the engine. When the pump shuts off, watch how fast the pressure falls off. A leaking injector (and several other things) will cause the pressure to drop rapidly.

Re: hard to start

The fuel pressure is at 44psi. Is that high?

Side note, my car backfired and almost shut off again when i went wot. I don't know if this problem and the hard starting is 1 or 2 issues.

Re: hard to start

44psi under what conditions? Primed, engine not running? Engine running with vacuum compensation line attched? Engine running with vacuum compensation line disconnected?

Re: hard to start

That's fine. How long does it stay at 44psi?
