Hard starting

hey just wondering if anyone else has this problem, start the car up after its been sitting for about 15 minutes or longer and it will crank for a good 4-5 seconds before it bites and starts, after that, the car runs awesome, first thing i tried was replacing the fuel filter, but that didn't help much if any, the starter isn't spinning slow or anyhting it jsut takes the car a long time to start, if i hold the gas pedal at wide open throttle it starts almost right away though, could the injectors need cleaning or would injector cleaner maybe help? any advice is welcome and apreciated.

It's the fuel pump........I had the same problem for a long time........Not knowing what it was I got a full tune-up and the problem still wasnt fixed. ($650)

try this:

Turn the key in the ignition to the ALT/on (but not so far as to engage the starter) position and wait until you hear the fuel pump stop priming the system. Turn the key back to the off position and repeat.

Then start the car.

The fuel pump is letting the fuel return to the gas tank.........a common problem. You will need to replace the fuel pump eventually.

Check the boards with the search key for fuel pump. You should find threads that outline putting in an access panel at the fuel tank that will make the change easier than dropping the tank or paying someone to do it.

so is the fuel pump suposed to let the gas return or not supossed to? if the car sits for about 10 min and i open the gas cap it doesn't release any pressure, but if i open the gas cap after like 30 seconds it has pressure but not much...

Had the same problem....it is the fuel pump. I would go ahead and upgrade to a high pressure pump. Another way to check it is to get a fuel pressure gauge, if you can, and see what kind of psi you are running. Mine would immediately drop down to 0 psi when I shut the car off.

I was wondering if they fit in the factory location and required no cutting of wires or other modifications, ie: Plug and Play.

Well, I would go with a Walbro high pressure. I think Racetronix has a kit. On mine I had to splice the wires together..and you may or may not have to modify the fuel pump bucket. There are some splines that I had to shave down so that the pump would sit straight up and down. I didn't get the Racetronix kit, so I am unsure if you still have to do that with that particular kit. My fuel pump was alot less than an OEM pump. So you would be a lot better off going ahead and getting the high pressure pump if you are ever thinking of NOS or other power adder. Also, I had to trim the fuel line down because it kept slipping off. I ended up having to drop the tank 3 times. Got really good at doing it though.

Before replacing your pump, I would try this test...When u go out to your car, and u know its going to give u this problem, crack your gas cap, and see if it starts...(releive whatever pressure is in there). See if this helps..

Is this suppose to help me or make it harder to start?
