Harwood B 12202 - making it functional?
I have a Harwood b 12202 fiberglass hood for my 94 Z.

Ive had a few ideas about how to make it into a functionable ram air hood. Let me know what you guys think. It would go something like.....
-Cut out the scoop opening in the front
-Fiberglass the underside of the hood to accept an LS1 style Filter (closing-in an air chamber under the hood and cutting a hole in it to sit on top of the filter when hood is closed)
-LS1 Lid/Filter mounted upside down in the fatory location.
When the hood shuts...in theory, it would sanwich the lid/filter(factory location but upside down) to the scoop. I know mounting all this stuff in such a way is easier said than done, but its just a thought
Would a ram air style air box be a better option than the standard LS1 lid?
Some sort of rubber seal will need to be made to seal the filter/lid to the intake hole cut in the hood, when closed.
I should have clearance issues too.
What do you guys think? Too much work?

The LT1 WS6 option was only offered in 1996 and 1997. A used WS6 box will cost decent $$$$. Mine is from SLP and was an exact copy of the WS6 box, but did not have the "PONTIAC" and "Ram Air" logos cast into the cover. SLP no longer sells the box.
Check Suncoast (they may have changed their name by now) - they made an airbox that was similar to fit their Ram Air hoods.

I figured that style of ram air might be kinda rare. I havnt heard of many cars that have them. It would be nice to run across a used Ram air System similiar to the one pic above. I will see what I can find
Thanks, input appreciated
Well back to the "modifying LS1 Lid" idea for now....

I had that same hood on my old car and was considering the same thing until I decided to give the motor its air through a procharger instead.
You have any friends with an LS1 that you could use for mock-up? IIRC- there is enough room for the parts, just have to invert the air intake system.

Here's how I did it. It's quite a bit of work but it can turn out nicely. The Harwood is far from ideal, but I wanted a ram air front along with cowl height in the rear to cover my intake and it fit the bill the best.
Before I sealed up the opening with Good-Stuff, silicone, etc:
It would have been a lot easier if the scoop was moved a bit farther forward and made a bit higher, there isn't much room underneath it. I made more room by trimming out the radiator cover (and re-sealing everything with aluminum tape):
Then mocked up the airbox until it fit:
I then used those as templates, cutting out pieces of ABS plastic from sheet and riveted it all together with aluminum angles.
