They sell poti's now? Wow! They stock toilet paper too??? Sorry, had to.
I've had the complete Autozone unit on my car and didn't have any problems with it. For the same money though, you can probably find new original GM units if your willing to wait for them in the mail. I got a new in box GM unit on Ebay for $220.

I'll actually didn't know they had opti's. I did a water pump on a '94 Z last summer and though about replacing the opti as well. I got the Duralast pump from AutoZone but just figured they didn't sell opti's, and the dealer was too expensive so I gave up on the idea.
If the brand they are selling is Wells, it's OK. I have used their Wells brand stuff for many tune-ups - including my LT1 last time - and never had an issue.

i bought one from autozone with a lifetime warranty....paid to have an ASE certified shop install it, and 200 miles later, the car would sputter and die, and not restart until it cooled down....took it back under warranty, got a replacement and put it in myself- the second one lasted about 500 miles...then it took a dump! after paying AND doing it myself, i finally decided to go with the MSD opti...and it runs great! even in the rain.
moral of the story- the money saved by buying cheap parts, isn't worth the cost/time it takes to install it. do it right, buy a quality piece (GM or MSD) and you will be alot happier in the end-

IMO dont repalce the opti unless its not working, the opti doesn't usually go out, but the cap and rotor has to be cleaned or replaced pretty regularly, i service mine about every two oil changes or so.

I've heard enough negative feedback about the Autozone replacements that would make me go elsewhere. You can most likely snag a brand new GM replacement from Jason or Dal for around the same price and be comfortable in knowing that it will perform as intended.

Most guys on the Impala site find that shortly after doing the cap and rotor
for about 40-50 dollars cheaper than doing a NEW opti from Dal, they have
to replace the opti anyway since the bearings start to come apart. I would
rather go through all that hassle of removing it, to put on a new one. Keep
the old one for when they start selling "rebuild kits".
