Has anyone kept the stock exh. tips with aftermarket exh?
Call me crazy, but i like the looks of the factory exhaust tips, and would like to add an aftermarket exhaust, but keep the factory tips. Anybody done this?

i'm pretty sure (not positive) that the tips that came w/ my cat back are bigger in diameter than the stock ones, but it may work on some. another option would be to replace just the muffler. I know hooker makes one specifically for it, and pretty sure flowmaster does. I don't know what you see in them tho, I think they look very out of place. Either split tips like a hooker/borla or two big pipes like the flowmaster seem to look really good

i did this a few weeks ago. all i replaced was my stock muffler with a dynomax ultra flow. i hacked the dynomax tail pipes down to a suitable length and put a uhm...exhaust pipe connector (i'm drawing blanks on the true technical term).
the problem is that the factory tail pipes are a little bit offset. so you have to do some adjusting and a little rigging up to get it close to centered.
i don't have pictures of it since i've done this or i'd email them to you, but it looks stock. it's not perfectly straight and centered but it's only noticable if you park beside another Z and really compare the two.

As mkent was talking about, you'll need a reducer since the stock tips are 2.25" where as most aftermarket tailpipes are 2.5". Also, you can't really just flip one of the tips over because they are kind of angled, it would just look weird that way.

Before I got my ta ,I used to have a 95 Z with stainless steel tips with the stock look, and a flowmaster muffler with no cat , I also like the look of the stock tips although they are smaller diameter than an after market set up they sound awesome and far better looking than round or quad tips, just my opinion.

You can try to expand the stock 2 1/4" stock tips out to 2 1/2" (using expansion tool), or I know that you can buy stock style tips in polished satinless steel or standard. I think that Year One has them, but you may want to look around.

i've got my car out today to do an oil change so if i can run down the digital camera i'll take a couple pictures and send them to you through email.
also, i tried flipping one side over (not using my head) and while the placement was perfect, the slashed angle of the tips makes it noticably wrong.
i love the stock look and it sounds very nice with them on, so i recommend going this route since you seem to like it too.
