Re: Has this happened to you?

I just bought my car last weekend and changed the coolant. I was having some dissapear as well. I would check the coolant dipstick ordeal and see nothing. Then the radiator and i couldnt see any in it. So i added some two days in a row like this. On the third day. I could see some in the radi so i added a little more. Today is the fourth day, and i havent checked it yet. I hope i dont have a headgasket leaking. I would much rather have an excuse to buy one of those cool aluminum radiators.

Re: Has this happened to you?

Thanks alot for the replies.

So far i have pulled 1,3,4,6 plugs and no coolant was found. Im still working on it. The theory that The head gasket will only leak while the head has pressure against it (combustion) sounds like a likely factor. I have the car to the point where it will run but still runs rough. After shutting the car down and then trying to restart it, it runs very rough as if it were missing but then settles down after a few seconds. I am thinking that it is the number 8 cylinder where the head gasket is blown but i can only get to that from the bottom. Ill try and let you know more info later whn i have time. Thanks again

Any more suggestions would be apreciated.

Re: Has this happened to you?

Had my 1995 lt1 for 3 years and could not find coolant leak. I could smell it some times on the passenger side, but nothing on ground. No water in oil, or water in oil. Ran warmer as the years went by. Now 85k on it. Pulled heads,
and #7 cyclinder blown(was on drivers side), and 5 others. #7 cyclinder was clean as a whilstle, kinda like it was steamed cleaned. Now I know where the water went , and why I smelled it, but could not find it. going out exhust pipe.
Just some info.

Re: Has this happened to you?

Well i think i found the problem

Pulled the engine out (actually a bunch of badass friends did since im at school right now and the car is 100 miles away) and the oil drained consist of about a third of water/coolant. This is on a 95 z28 with 116000 miles. Trying to figure out the most cost efficient way of getting it running again. Im pretty sure since there are so many miles on it and not knowing how many miles of those were with water in the oil that the bottom end is toast. Ive seen a few short blocks on here for pretty cheap..............What would you do. would you try salvaging anything or would it be cheaper to buy someones rebuild???..Funds are very limited
THanks alot for the help
