Hasn't been cranked in 4 years
I just bought a 94 Z28 that has been sitting for 4 years and not cranked during this time. The opti is bad. What should I do other than replacing the opti and water pump to get this running?

Fill the tank with premium, change the oil and you should be good. Some will tell you that the cam bearings will get destroyed if you don't get the oil pressure up with the intake manifold off. I would agree with them.

Re: Hasn't been cranked in 4 years
There are two ways to get the oil pressure up in the engine without it running. The first is to pull the intake manifold and purchase/rent a tool that goes on the end of a drill. It will spin the oil pump thus producing pressure and oiling the inside of the engine. The other is a pressurized oil can that you can get from summit or jegs. The way I understand it, these are the only two ways to oil the engine without destroying the bearings inside of it. If you spin a bearing by dry cranking it(no fresh oil on the cam bearings/crank/main bearings, you would be in for a rebuild. Sounds like you just want to get this thing running. I would call up jegs and order the pressurized oil can, it's about $65. Hope this helps.

Hey, could you help us out with finding that pressurized oil can? I am in the same situation as this guy, however when I searched for the can I kept finding a $200 setup. That is a little much. If there is one for $65 I would love to be able to leave the manifold on.
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

I would pull the fuel lines loose, turn the key off and run all the old gas out by turning the key on and off, then pull the manifold and just prime it up as has been stated, if your dead set on not pulling it, just pull a fuse. and let it spin. 4 years is a long time.

Re: Hasn't been cranked in 4 years
I have pre lubed my LT1 engines after sitting for some time in the following way: I usually remove the oil pressure sender and inject oil in that port.
I made a container out of 2 1/2 pipe capable of holding about a quart of oil.
a hose on one end connected to the oil pressure port and a quick connect air fitting on the other end to fill the container and pressurize the contents with compressed air.
Works for me. No need to remove the intake.
You can run the fuel pump if you connect +12 V power the connector close to the PCM. At least in a 96 dont know if it is the same for a 94.

Re: Hasn't been cranked in 4 years
My engine and trans sat for over 5 years before it was installed. I changed the oil, cleaned the injectors put in some new gas and drove away. That was 10 years ago. Changing the oil and cranking it a few times should be sufficient since the pump is already primed. Fresh gas and have the injectors cleaned and you should be good to go.
