Head Gasket or Not? Give me your 2 cents!!

Need your opinion guys/gals. I am having a local LS/LT shop install my LE cam in the next month or so. I am currently running 10.5:1 comp and have the opportunity to swap out the gaskets for thinner ones to bump it up to 11:1. Lloyd says I am ok with 10.5 but of course 11 is always better. The question is the difference in price is about $500 to pull the heads and do this vs just doing the cam swap. Is it worth it to pull the heads and do the gasket or not, as I am on a pretty tight budget. Let me know your opinion!!!

PS: I know I am gonna get ragged on for not doing this myself as I have all the tools and know it's pretty easy, but I really don't have time these days and I want to make sure it's done right.

If you're on a tight budget I'd probably pass. If you had the heads off I'd say deff do it, but also realize you'll probably want to run a higher octane with a higher compression ratio.

I'm running 1074 gaskets and heads milled .030". They are going in this weekend. I have to have the heads off anyway to repair a stripped header bolt hole. If they will be off... have them milled and run thinner gaskets. If not leave it alone. It's not worth the extra cost.

I wouldn't spend the extra $500 for the thinner gaskets. Now if you were doing it yourself it would be a different story.

leabe it alone man, $500 is not worht it for maybe 5 extra ponies, and the fact that now you MUST run 93 octane all the time. You will be fine.

Use that money for an electric water pump or something you can really use.

Thanks guys looks like I'm gonna leave it alone. Currently the setup has AFR's with 68cc chambers and the felpro 1004 gasket (.041 thick) and SRP flattops (-5cc) so that is why I am sitting at 10.5:1 now and if I just swapped to a thinner gasket like .026 then I would go to 11:1. Thanks for all of your input and I agree it's not really worth the $$ or trouble.

soo with the impalas and the heads being milled .030 you HAVE to run 93 octane?? trying to clarify because im changing my gasket this weekend thanks to a bad water pump.. would milling the heads .010 and running the impalas hurt cuz me to run 93 octane also??
