Head install ASAP - How clean does the block need to be?

Doing my head install, and even after scraping the deck with a gasket scraper there is still residue of the old gasket.

How clean does this need to be? Should i use some emry cloth or something to really clean them up?

Anyone have any suggestions?

Buy some gasket remove and try spraying that stuff on. Made my life a bit easier when removing the gasket on my differential. The stuff I got seemed to dissolve it but also acted as a lubricant too.
