header gaskets and bolts

need some advice on wether or not i should get felpro gaskets and the arp bolts ( which i cant figure out which ones i need from summit). i have pacesetter longtubes on the way. reason i am debating this is, i am going to iraq in july, should be gone 12-18 months. So i will only be driving a few months with the LTs and then it goes back home to the family, and they drive it once a week or so so it doesnt sit still. After i get back i plan on building a VRE 383 w/ LE3 or something like that, so i am trying to save a little bit of money now. SO will the bolts and gaskets that come with the headers be good for that amount of time, or should i go ahead i buy some so i dont have problems? thanks

Re: header gaskets and bolts

I like using Fel-pro gskts for the exhaust don't know what kind of gskt come with P/setter LT's though.

AFA header bolts I like using ARP and not the ones that come with any header setup. The best I've found is stainless steel bolts and ARP makes a set which has a small 5/16" wrenching hex head. Using these bolts will allow a box end wrench to be used to tighten and loosen the bolts. Sometimes trying to tighten header bolts using the open end can round off the head and you can't put too much torque on them to really tighten up the bolts good. The small 5/16" hex head on the bolts solve that problem. Definitely worth the money.

Re: header gaskets and bolts

would you recommend using the bolts again, or are header bolts a one time use?

Re: header gaskets and bolts

ordered my Pacesetters on April the 6th and they STILL have not even shipped

Got some ARP bolts and Percy's deadsoft gaskets.

If your going to get the ARP stainless bolts, get the 1 inch long ones as my 3/4 inch ARPs may or may not be long enough.

I assume your in the US Military because you going to Iraq, so be careful over there.

Thumbs up Re: header gaskets and bolts

I bought pacesetter longtubes and just used the gaskets they supplied with NO sealant at ALL. I have had no leaks for the past year. I think tightening them after they cool down several times did the trick. But I would suggest the ARP bolts at least.

Congrats on going to Iraq brother. I just joined the Reserves, and I'll be in basic and AIT all this summer.

Re: header gaskets and bolts

I used the bolts that Pacesetter supplied, they have not backed out once in the time that the headers have been on. I didn't take chances with the gaskets though and went with a pair of Fel-Pro 1406s, which also have not caused me any problems.
