header install problem

i have a 97 Z28 and i am in the process of putting a set of long tube headers on. I have somehow stripped a bolt on the last bolt on the drivers side and i snapped a header bolt on the passengers side. anyone have any tips on how to reach the bolts easier on the passengers side? how do you get a stripped bolt out in such a tight space?? any help would be great!

Re: header install problem

From past experience, if you snapped one flush into the head, your only options are usually to take it somewhere who could drill it out, or your gonna have to remove the head and get it drilled out, happened to a buddy of mine.

Re: header install problem

Don't know, but seems that you are probably going to have less trouble removing the heads since you have boogered both sides.

When you consider the time it will take to get at them plus the fact that you might have to drill and use an easy out to remove the headless bolt (unlsess you can get a pair of small "v grips on it" and as for the stripped sucker, yo might have to retap it for a larger bolt or use a helicoil.

And: if you have not already installed a new top end, including RRs, springs, etc. Having the heads off will make that easier, PLUS it will provide you the opportunity to ensure that your header flanges are perfectly flat and matched to your heads to reduce the possiblity of leakage because of uneven flanges.
