Heads/Cam package

Heads/Cam package
Got a camaro i put about 500 miles a year on, but want to keep it street friendly. Going to be getting a set of longtube headers soon, and now looking what I may like in a heads and cam package. Looking to keep stock stall, and run 400 at the rear wheels.
What are my options? Has anyone ran the Lloyd Elliot stage 1 or stage 2 package and what kind of numbers from that on an honest dyno? Would like good all around power with a choppy idle if possible.
Also the car is an automatic...

Im not sure that 400rwhp is attainable with the stock stall the cams that will get you there need around a 3200-3600 stall unless there is alot of headwork done and im not sure then even..
Alot of people on here have ran both the LE1 and LE2 packages and i dont think that any of them were dissatisfied.

A stock converter requires you to focus on a milder idle and focus on making HP and TQ right off idle so the car will accelerate well. A 223/230 .565/.565 112 LSA cam is a great choice for a car with stock gears and no stall.
Anything larger and you would want to use a stall.
If you are wanting to see 400 RWHP, the 226/230 cam is probabaly the smallest you can get by with and that HP level is alot easier to achieve with a 230/234 cam. This cam will want at least a 2800 stall and a 3200/3600 would really amke the car fly.
When focusing on using stock gears and no stall, you will end up about 20 HP lower than if using the 230/234 cam on the same set up.

I'd probably go for the bigger cam choice and a 3200 stall. Whats a decent brand thats easy on the checkbook for our 4L60E transmissions?
Also Lloyd, with the LE1 package, the bigger cam you mentioned, a 3200 stall, stock gears, and an automatic transmission, longtube headers and intake, you think the car should be around 400 horse at the wheels with a good tune?
Also what kind of RPM needs to be spun with the 223/230, 226/230 and the 230/234 cams?

I hate high stall converters on the street. I prefer something that stalls around 2,500-3,000 and using a lower gear out back. Big stalls just feel sloppy to me. Good heads and a relatively small cam (~215-220 @ 0.050" on the intake) are the way to go for mild performance use on an automatic (with 3.73 or 4.11 gears). Get a cam with low "intensity", sometimes called an "aggressive" lobe with relatively high lift/duration, use good springs.
