Help on a 12 sec. dd cam

I'm sure there are threads for this but I can't find one pinpointed at what I want. I want to know which cam I can get for my car and be able to run high 12's( or better), and only have to shift at 6400 RPM ( at the highest) and still eb able to DD the car.
I was looking at the cc306 but from what I have read, it is similar to the GM847 and I would have to rev up to 6800,7000 RPM. I'm also pretty sure my car has a hotcam right now ( people can tell it has some cam, and certain things seem to point to the hotcam).
I plan on getting some 3.73s, a 3600 RPM stall converter also. What cam would best help me with all these?
Or do you think I could hit high 12's with the converter and gears. My best time so far is 13.5@101.( I know bad mph, but my car runs rich, and I got a reman opti). Any one know if a reman opti runs worse than a new one and thus could cause my bad times?

A converter and gear upgrade could very well put you into the high 12s.

You can probably run 12s with your current set up if you just dial in what you have now...Get a tune done to get your A/F ratio sorted out..Look into some minor suspension bolt ons and go back to the track...Nittos aren't my favorite choice for DRs...I'd look at the BFGs or even the MT ET radials (which are what I use)...Maximize what you have first before you proceed...You may be surprised...

After you get what you have worked out then look at the converter and gears...

I have a custom grind cam in the classifieds that would suit you well. makes the same power as the cc306 with a lower peaking rpm.

I had a CC 503 (xe 224/230) for a few years and it was a great cam. I recently switched to the GM847 which is a little burlier on the street but still not bad if you're already used to driving a cammed car. The 503 drives like stock and has VERY tame street manners until you lay into it.

I ran a 12.9 @ 111 (1.9 60') on that cam, drag racing it like an old lady. The ET on that run was crap, but the MPH was good for mid-low 12's easily if I didn't miss third all the time .

I wouldn't be surprised if you could scrape a high 11 second slip out of that cam with the help of ET streets (if you could get the 10-bolt to hold).

As mentioned here, the gears and a quality converter will really wake your car up. Especially if you do go with a 3600 stall. You would be better off starting out this way, and then see if you still want a bigger cam. And don't forget to make sure your A/F is on the money as ABA383 pointed out.
You probably have a high 12 second car already, with these things done.

Also don't forget suspension mods. Cam can make your car almost useless without the proper setup.

Thanks for all the help. My friend sure thinks my car is 12 second capable. I'm looking at getting a tune done next week. Just have to call up a few people, get things set and get the car tuned!

myself and a few other impala folks have gotten our heavier cars with smaller cams to break into the 12s NA. You can do it with enough converter and gear!

The GM847 is going to peak around 6200 RPM on stock heads, which allows for shifting around 6400 - 6500 RPM.

Here's a graph of Atljar's car with a GM847 and stock heads.

http://home.cinci.rr.com/atljar/atlj...Heads%20NA.jpg

I also shifted my GM847 w/stock heads at 6450 RPM and ran a 12.4 @ 111.5 in my previous LT1 in 4800' DA.

I'm running 12s at 114-115 MPH "driving" it on Mich Pilots with a Lloyd Elliott "Emissions" cam in a full weight convertible. This cam has a smooth idle and makes power off idle to 6500RPMs with my setup.
