Yes, a messed-up MAF could make the car lean.

i dont think it would lean it out that much because when you go into wot or open loop the maf is not used. but the PE mode (power enrichment table) may be off becuase the blms are factored in to that a/f ratio at wot. i dont think the maf would set the blms that far off. i would almost garantee that. but let some more people chime in on this to be sure.
