HELP - electrical problem

Hi guys,

I had a short circuit and the battery was drained completely. No lights or anything.

I fixed the short, but when I try to jump start the car (booster car is running and reving), the accessories/lights don't turn on or are very very dim. Also, when I attach the negative lead to the alternator post (is this a good/bad spot to attach the negative lead on the dead car?), there is a very small spark and none of that clicking sound usually heard when a decent battery is reconnected.

When I turn the key it almost sounds like a sizzling sound is coming from the passenger side of the car.

Can a battery be drained so far that when jump starting, even accessories do not get power? I am pretty sure my connections and terminals are fine.

If my PCM was fried by the short, the accessories would still get power and the car should still at least crank over when jump started right?

Thanks guys.

TTT

My thinking is that the battery is so drained that a jumpstart can't help it. Does this ever happen?

Am I getting this right that you are attaching a negative jumper cable to the post on the back of the alternator? It's a positive terminal.

sorry I should have said the accessory bracket. I am cracked out on medicine right now .

Anyhow the problem was a completely and utterly dead battery. We put a new one in and everything is fine.

I had a short circuit which must have drained the old battery so fast and so completely that itr was useless even when jumpstarted.
