Help on installing Hooker LT's

I am trying to assemble my engine with heads still off and Hooker LT's waiting to be intalled. Couple members(FastGuyJR and Sean94Z ) already replied, and their advices were to put heads on first, and then lift the enginge up a bit and install the long tube headers. Can I get away by installing headers without lifting the engine? Should I position my headers first and then bolt the heads on?

Thanks for any help

Tomas

A friend of mine over here lifted his engine up when putting those hookers on but I've heard numerous people putting them on without having to jack up the motor. It's also a little harder with M6's.

From what I am starting to understand, is that I will need to lift the engine. Can I jack it up a bit just from the bottom, or I will need to rent an engine puller?

Thanks

From what I've read, (getting ready to install my Jet Hots), most people haven't needed to jack the engine up. But those who have, did it with a 2 ton jack or whatever. I think. Do a search, and you will be able to find out. I read one yesterday that sort of explained how they jacked theirs up. I think it was on FLPs, or something, but its the same idea.

Yeah, I have a m6 and there was no way those hookers were going in without jacking.. even with the engine lifted it was a real b!tch of a squeeze. Just loosen the motor mount bolts a good amount but don't pull them out! If you pull them out and the engine some how shifts (with my luck it would some how) then you've got another PITA thing to deal with. Anyways, use the slack you've created by loosening the bolts.. put a hunk of wood on a floor jack and jack that engine up as high as you can.

A lot of people do get away without jacking.. I sure don't see how though maybe it does have something to do with the m6 trannies?

You're in for some real fun

thanks

I will try doing today and tomorrow. I was actually able to get the passanger side in without jacking the engine, but my heads are still off and I don't know if I will be able to put them on with hookers positioned. You guys are right that the transmission does get in the way, and I will try jacking up the engine.
I found some help files in the forum, but there is some difference between them doing it and me. First of all, I am working in non heated garage with minimum amount of tools at night, when it is freezing like hell with minimum light. And then, I am a brand new F-body owner, and there still are lots of things for me to learn. Things like crankshaft hub and oil tank gasket (both PITA's) get me a bit frustrated. Spring break is next week for me, I hope the car will be running.

Thanks for your help
Tomas
