HELP! LT1 OVERHEATING(at least the guage says so)?????

95 T/A M6...123k miles

i just put a new opti on the car, new water pump, and a new t-stat. Car starts, idles, and runs fine EXCEPT that the temp guage rises extremely fast and pegs itself about 3 minutes after the car is started

coolant temp sensor was replaced about 10k miles ago

everything appears to be plugged in...CAN ANYONE HELP ME?!?!?!

You purge the coolant system. These cars are very weird about that since they are reverse flow.

Check out www.shbox.com and search around for the procedure.

Try filling your coolant through the top of the water pump (where the thermostat goes). After that, top the radiator off like you normally would. I've found from doing this on all of my engines that this leaves minimal air in the system to bleed out.

ok look, on one of the coolant lines, you'll see a fitting that looks like it has a brass flat head screw in it.. start the car, when the gauge starts peaking, you take that screw and back it out until you start to get steam, becareful because steam is hot..lol.. you'll get a sputter or so of coolant, close it up.. wait about 8 or 9 seconds and open it back up, should get some more steam, maybe just coolant, and then close it back up and give it a good twist for tightness, go poke your head in the driver window and watch that gauge drop like a rock... really easy stuff...
