help me with my CC305 and 1.7RR project!

Im back from europe and ready to put together my car again! After several months of planning I have decided to go with the cc305 cam on a 112 LSA with scorpian 1.7RR's.

Now I dont think to many people have done this combo before, and I know some of you will be very suspect and tell me to just go with 1.6 rockers and choose another cam like a 503 or an XFI grind, but this is what I want to do, it fits my budget, its easily tunable, so again this is what i want. I want to utilize the 918 spring to ensure the .578/.578 lift will be under control. The problem is I am confused on all the little parts that will be needed to go along with everything like locks and retainers and such.

I've found two good threads after doing several days of research, one thread deals with 1.7rr install and the other deals with 918 springs. Basically, I dont know how to combine the two so that it all works together. Here are the threads as well as their parts lists;

Parts needed to install Comp 26918 beehive springs on a stock
aluminum head LT1 (for iron heads just omit the spring seat).
7 degree hardware with 4705-16 spring seats (1.73" installed
height):
787-16 retainers
648-16 locks
10 degree hardware with 4705-16 spring seats:
795-16 steel retainers, or
794-16 titanium retainers
611-16 locks (standard), 1.70" installed height, or
614-16 locks (+.050), 1.75" installed height
For either installation you will need spring seats:
4705-16 spring seats, .062" thick

• Scorpion Rockers SCP1026 http://www.flatlanderracing.com
• Comp Cams Hardened Pushrods p/n 7808-16 Comp Cams (I have since removed these and installed 7.150" chromoly pushrods - p/n: 7939-16 - to correct the valvetrain geometry)
• Comp Cams 918 Springs 26918-16 CompCams
• 10* Comp Cams Steel retainers p/n 759-16
• 10* Comp Cams Super Locks p/n 611-16
• GM Valve Seals 10212810 & 12564582 http://www.gmpartsdirect.com
• GM Guideplates 14011051 http://www.gmpartsdirect.com (these needed modification -- keep reading to see why)
• ARP 7/16 Studs 134-7103
• Comp Cams Shim Kit p/n# 7453
• Engine Assembly Lube
• Locktite
My goal with this thread is to get a complete parts list together so that everything will work flawlessly!

Re: help me with my CC305 and 1.7RR project!

With that set up I would FOR SURE be going with a 10* set up. 10* is stronger, and is priced the same. You have to get new retainers for 918 springs anyways ... So what difference does it make?

You will likely have trouble getting the correct valve train geometry with that set up though. It seems to be pretty tricky with anything bigger than the stock cam. Also, on a set up like that, absolutly buy ARP or Comp Hi Tech studs (Same thing) in 7/16". Also I think you need the +.050 locks to put you closer to the correct installed hieght? Im not positive though.

I would not want to run an aluminum RR if I was going with a cam with that kind of lift/ramp rates AND 1.7 ratio. I wonder if you could order 7/16" Promags in 1.7. I know they make 1.7 for BBC so I would imagine you could run pro mags instead of scorpians or another aluminum set up.

Also, for a set up like that, you will definatly need good guide plates. Either get the GM ones and then file down the middle so that the push rods dont hit them, or buy the ISKY adjustable ones. I believe its the AGP 200's that are correct for an LT1.
