HELP!!New Motor Problem

Ok, Just got done building a new 383 Stroker and it won't start at all. IT's throwing a low resolution code(16), a mass airflow malfunction, and MAP code. I upgraded to a new vented optispark and wired up a new connector. The vents/vaccum lines are caps on the optispark if that maters? Is the wiring the same for the 93-97 opti? I had the motor running last week and something wasn't right with it, Wouldn't idle and start like it shoud. Also, is it bad to crank the motor excessively? It has oil pressure when cranking.

Re: HELP!!New Motor Problem

The motor is firing every now and then. It's backfiring like crazy though the intake so the motor is getting spark. But wont start.

do you have the opti on right?

and what is the point of having a vented opti if you cap the ports?
that is worse then running a non vented one, at least they are vented to atmosphere

Well, I don't know how the opti could be install wrong? It fitted in flush. It's caped off till I get all of the vaccum hose for it.

Re: HELP!!New Motor Problem

Code 16 is an indication the ECM is not seeing the low res signal from the Opti. what do you mean you wired the new Opti? THe old style opti and the new one dont use the same use conectors so how could you have wired It? If you are saying you got a newer pigtail and just hooked it up yes it is a direct replacment, did it on my 94 with no problems. Is the Opti new? BTW untill you get the check valve leave them pluged the way you have them now. If you just hook vacume lines up it canl suck the cap onto the rotor, ask me how I know

Re: HELP!!New Motor Problem

I wired a new pigtail to it, the opti is new so I doubt that would be the problem. Thanks for the heads-up on the vaccum for the opti, I din't know it would suck the rotor into it.
