Help with OBD 1 trouble codes

I have a 94 Z28 with OBD 1. When I look under my hood at night I can see some electricity arching off of the metal piece that the alternator mounts to. I know the belt cant conduct electric but it looks as iff its arching between the mount and the belt. Its a steady stream so i dont think its a plug wire. My engine light comes on and off but yesterday my alternator went out so i replaced it. After I did that the light has been staying on so I bought a repair manual with the trouble codes and did the paper clip thing. The book says to do it with the key in the on position but the light wont flash unless the car is running. The light blinks fast for about 15 seconds and then pauses. Then it starts blinking at a slower rate but it doesnt pause often. Sometimes it gets up to 45 and even 100 blinks before i get a pause. Is there some kind of trick to doing this? Also any ideas what the arching might be from? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Help with OBD 1 trouble codes

The paper clip method can only be done on a '93. '94 up requires a scanner. Here is a list of trouble codes.

Here's some scanners for OBD-1.
